Hey Innis! My name’s Miranda and I’ll be your IRC President this year! I’m currently in my 4th year doing a Health and Disease specialist and a major in Music, so if you want to have a conversation about anything from Mozart to the powerhouse of the cell, look no further! I’m originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, I play the violin and piano, I own more pairs of earrings than I’d like to admit, I enjoy drinking tea out of extremely large mugs, and I love eating sour foods and candy.
You can usually find me shuffling around residence in a pair of slippers and a comfy sweater so if you see me come say hi! I love meeting new people so feel free to ask me anything about the IRC, getting involved at Innis, adjusting to life in Toronto or even just to hear a joke or two. I found moving away from my family to a big city where I didn’t know anyone to be tough at first, but after joining a few clubs and attending several IRC events I met a lot of amazing people in residence who became my second family. Overall the IRC’s purpose is to provide opportunities for students to meet one another and make Innis Residence more than just a place where you eat, sleep and study so I invite you to come to even just one of our events this year and get to know the students living around you!
If you ever have any questions about what the IRC does or how to get involved, you can email email@example.com or if you’d like to contact me directly you can email firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to meeting you and I hope you have an amazing residence experience, so welcome to Innis and welcome to the family!
Hey Innis! My name is Victoria Hue and I will be the Vice President of the IRC this year. I am a 4th year student in the Cell and Molecular Biology and Neuroscience program. I love to talk neuro so if you have any questions about Life Sciences or just want to chat about dopamine and mice, definitely come say hi!
Although bio is life, I really love to sing and direct practices for Innis College Choir right here on residence. This year, I will be working closely with your awesome IRC President to maintain Innis Residence as a place where everyone can find their passions and make lasting friendships. Looking forward to helping you all meet your new neighbors and discover your new home.
Catch me in the music room – let’s make music and have a fantastic year!
Hey Innis! My name is Andrew and I will be your IRC Treasurer this year! I am currently in my second year, double majoring in Political Science and Philosophy, with a minor in Asian Canadian Studies, so if you ever want to talk politics, I’m your guy! I grew up in Calgary, Alberta (go Flames!) where cowboys and wheat kings roam free on the prairies. Outside of the IRC, I am also one of the Equity & Outreach Coordinators on the Innis College Student Society.
You’ll see me hanging around the residence pretty often, so come say hi and be my friend (I have no friends). We can talk about music (anything from indie rock to classical), electoral systems, or just how to get involved around the college. Hope to see you around, and welcome to Innis!
Hey Innis! My name is Ethan (yes there are multiple Ethans on the council), and I’ll be your Secretary this year! I’m currently a second year student studying Actuarial Science, which is basically insurance and statistics. I was born and raised in suburban Markham, so coming to Toronto is a big change. This city has so much to discover and explore, I found it truly exciting!!! I consider myself to be a bit of a sports fanatic, and I absolutely love my Blue Jays, Raptors, and Eagles. I’m also super talkative, so feel free to talk to me about literally anything! Innis has made me feel like I am truly living in my second home, and I hope that you can feel that way as well.
Hey Innis, my name is Ethan and I’ll be your IRC Social Convener this year! This is my third year here, majoring in Neuroscience and Cell and Systems Biology so if you’re interested in either, come ask me questions! Music is also a huge passion of mine and I love playing the piano and trumpet; I’m also the co-director of the Innis College Choir. Coming from Vancouver meant I had to quickly adjust to the bustling, busy city life here. I thought that making friends here would be difficult at such a large university but I quickly found that the more you get involved with the community here at Innis, you’ll get to know many more people and really feel at home. As the Social Convener, I’ll be planning events for the Residence for everyone to participate in, including potlucks, House Olympics and much more. Feel free to come talk to me about anything, whether it’s school related, getting used to a new city, music tastes or just a friendly conversation. Welcome to Innis!
Junior House Reps are first-year students who work together with their respective Senior House Reps to build House spirit and encourage involvement in the Residence. They organize House Olympics and other events. Junior House Reps participate in the bi-weekly IRC meetings, so it is a great opportunity to see what all of the positions really do, and where they want to get involved in the future. Junior House Reps are chosen through an application process in October, so be prepared!
Senior House Reps are upper-year students who are responsible for building House spirit and encouraging involvement in the residence. They organize the monthly House Olympics, are responsible for all suite events in their respective houses, and mentor their respective Junior House Reps. Senior House Reps are chosen through an application process each spring, so more information will be given out closer to the date.
Hi and welcome to Innis! My name is Lauren and I’ll be the Senior House Rep for First House this year! I’m in my second year, studying Psychology and Computer Science. I spent most my life in Montreal so I am still a bit of a tourist in Toronto. I love food and intend to go on many food adventures this year. Feel free to join me! If I am not out exploring Toronto, I am probably in my suite (watching YouTube videos…) or procrastinating in the Fishbowl. Come find me – I am always glad to chat about adjusting to university, academics, or anything really!
Hey Innisians! I’m Daniel and I will be the Senior House Rep for Devo this year! I’m in my 2nd year, double-majoring in Immunology and Health & Disease. Come talk to me about video games, board games, music, TV shows and food. Drop by my suite if you just want to chat, play some games, listen to some funky jazz, or cook up a spicy calzone – if I’m not in class, you can find me in my suite! I hope to see you around and stay schwifty!
Hey Innis! My name is Lucas Granger, I am doing a History Specialist here at the University of Toronto, and I will be the Senior House Representative for Taddle this year! I’m really excited to get to know all of you, so feel free to stop me if you ever see me to say hello. When I’m not at Front Desk you will probably catch me in the TV room catching up on some movies and TV shows that I have been told to watch. I’m a night owl, so if you ever have any questions don’t hesitate to ask at any hour, because I will probably be awake. Welcome to Innis Residence, we will have a great year together!
Hiya! My name is Louisa and I’ll be the Senior House Representative for Vlad this year! Feel free come find me and passion-yell about anything (or just chat normally, whatever floats your boat). I’m heading into my second year in the social sciences studying Peace, Conflict, and Justice and Economics. My goal this year is to study in the libraries of every college. I’m [too] emotionally invested in Netflix shows, snacking at late hours, and the jerk chicken at the Innis Café. Come say hi!
Hi Innis! I’m Wendy and I’ll be the Senior House Representative for North House this year! I’m a third year student specializing in Computer Science. I’m from Mississauga, but I spent most of my childhood in Calgary and Beijing, and since Beijing’s also a big city, I’m enjoying life in Toronto so far. My favourite thing about Innis, though, is the fact that it’s pretty small and it’s easy to get involved. I’ve been involved with the environmental committee for the past two years, so people who don’t recycle properly are my mortal enemy, but you can escape this fate by learning how to recycle properly, which I’d be more than glad to help with! My other interests include drawing, Greek mythology, (some) anime and Pentatonix, but even if we don’t have any common interests feel free to talk to me! I’m actually very friendly, don’t worry. Hope you have a great first year in res!
Hey Innis! I am Sarah, one of your Senior House Reps! I am in my second year doing an Anthropology specialist and a double-minor in Latin American Studies and Art History. I am an international student from Peru. If you guys have any questions or just want to talk about transitioning to Toronto, I will be happy to help. Outside of the IRC, I am one of the Equity and Outreach Directors of the ICSS. Another interesting fact about me is that I am a vegan and I LOVE food and cooking. Hit me up for quick recipes and/or delicious vegan places in Toronto. Welcome to Innis! Or as I like to call it, home away from home.
The Environmental Committee promotes awareness of environmental issues and encourages eco-friendly behaviour through events and challenges run throughout the year, including a month-long recycling challenge between the houses, potlucks and green chef events that teach students how to cook meals with environmentally-friendly ingredients.
Hey Innis! My name’s Paxton and I’ll be one of the Environmental Committee Co-chairs this year. I’m in 2nd year at the University of Toronto, majoring in Fundamental Genetics and Cell and Molecular Biology. I’m originally from Calgary, so moving to busy city life in Toronto has been a big change for me. I love being outdoors, be it camping, backpacking or mountain biking, I’m always down for a new challenge. I’m also an avid hockey fan (Go Flames Go!), and play the piano in my free time (but who really has free time?). When I first got to U of T, I was intimidated by its sheer size, but once I got involved, the Innis community has really become my home away from home. I’m looking forward to another year of meeting new people and sleep deprivation!
The Game and Media Entertainment (GAME) Committee hosts various events in the Innis Residence involving electronic media throughout the year, including movie marathons, video game tournaments, and Saturday morning cartoons.
Hey everyone! I’m Karen, a computer engineering student (ECE1T9) from Windsor, Ontario, and I’ll be one of your Innis GAME committee co-chairs for the 2017-2018 school year! In my free time, I like to play video games and dungeons and dragons; I also enjoy drawing, singing, playing the flute, stargazing, and reading comic books. My favourite thing about Innis is definitely how close the community is–I can always come back to the residence and have someone to talk to or hang out with. If I were a type of potato or potato-based food, I’d be sweet potato fries!
Fit Club is a club where any fitness level can feel comfortable joining in participating in physical activities, group discussions and events surrounding fitness and an overall healthy lifestyle. This includes taking advantage of free fitness classes offered by UofT, exploring gyms and fitness facilities around campus, and holding events like potlucks and fitness challenges throughout the year.
Hello, Innisians! My name is Meghan Lees, and I am embarking on my second-year journey at the University of Toronto. I am studying Life Sciences, with a focus in Neuroscience, Psychology, and Buddhism, Mental Health, and Psychology. I am originally from Canada, although last year was my first time truly living in the country. I have lived overseas my whole life: born in Colombia, then moving to the Ivory Coast, China, Uganda, and Saudi Arabia. I would not trade these experiences for anything! My favourite quality about Innis is the genuine good-heartedness of all its members and residents. For this reason, I would like to foster the tight-knit community of Innis as well as give back to those who have given so much to me. By being Fit Club Co-Chair, I hope to bring my passion of healthy living, athletics, and fitness to the residents of Innis and ensure their year is full of healthful happiness!
Ads and Publicity directors design and create posters and promotional material for all IRC events.
Hellooo! My name is Alison and I’ll be one of the Ads and Publicity Directors for the year. I’m a third year student in the computer science specialist program with hopes of starting a career in game development. Outside of academics, I’m all about video games, animals, and captaining Innis College’s intramural women’s basketball team. You can catch me at Bahen, around the residence and wandering campus in search of cool birds so come and say hi! Plus, I’ll always have a generous supply of funky bird photos to show you!
Hey Innis! My name is Julie and I’m a second-year student in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Immunology. I will be one of two Ads and Publicity directors for the IRC where I help to design and create promotional works such as pretty posters for upcoming events. In my spare time, I like to lounge around and catch up on television shows such as Marvel’s Agents of Shield, Grey’s Anatomy, The Flash, etc. My favourite thing about Innis is how friendly and welcoming everyone is! Feel free to come talk to me about anything (kpop, anime, television shows, superhero movies, etc.) and I hope you have a great year at Innis and UofT!
