Innis COVID-19 guidelines for Summer 2022

Innis College’s re-entry plans and decision-making is guided by an approach that prioritizes the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, and the surrounding community in which we reside. The re-opening of College operations is taking a measured approach as informed by public health guidelines and corresponding directives from the University.

  • Hand-sanitization stations are located near each building entrance and outside of each washroom.
  • Soap and water are available in all washrooms, along with disposable paper towels for drying hands.
  • Signage is posted outlining proper hygiene procedures.

Food and drink can be consumed in the café seating area (see hours below) and courtyard. All other areas are prohibited, including the main lobby, rooftop patio, second-floor lounges, and classrooms.

The Innis Café is an independently owned and operated business. It is open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, in accordance with college operating hours, which may change without notice.

Caretaking Services provides cleaning and disinfecting services to Innis College.

  • There will be daily routine cleaning of classrooms, library, and public spaces, such as lobbies and washrooms.
  • High-touch areas in common spaces will be cleaned and disinfected twice daily. This includes door handles, washroom fixtures, handrails, and elevator buttons.
  • Caretaking Services also maintains the supply of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes at the College.

All occupants of the College are also asked to clean high-touch areas in their own workspace (such as countertops, shared equipment/tools, touch screens, keypads) throughout the day as used. Shared workspaces are equipped with disinfectant wipes or spray, paper towels, gloves, and masks.

Innis College is located at 2 Sussex Avenue, at the corner of St. George Street and Sussex Avenue. Typical opening hours are Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 9 pm. Innis Residence, located at 111 St. George Street, is open to residents and authorized visitors only. Please contact the residence for up-to-date information at residence.innis@utoronto.ca or 416-978-2512.

  • There is no front reception desk at Innis College.

The Innis Writing Centre is open for online appointments only. All appointments are booked through the online system.

The Innis Café is an independently owned and operated business. The café open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm, in accordance with college operating hours, which may change without notice. Current dine-in hours are 11am to 2pm for those who display a valid UCheck upon entering.  

Food and drink can be consumed in the café seating area and courtyard. All other areas are prohibited, including the main lobby, rooftop patio, second-floor lounges, and classrooms.

  • Regular mail services through the University have resumed. Mail is picked up twice per week.
  • Personal mail services are strictly prohibited.
  • Please note that there is no front reception desk to receive packages. Please make arrangements for courier deliveries when administrative staff members are not on site.
  • Couriers are required to self-assess and screen prior to entering the building.

The elevator is operational during regular business hours. There is no service elevator.

Caretaking Services oversees the regular cleaning of high-touch surfaces, including elevator panels and buttons.

  • Washrooms are located on the upper and lower levels of the College.
  • Single, accessible washrooms are located on the second and third floors of the east wing.   
  • Soap and water are available in all washrooms, along with disposable paper towels for drying hands.
  • Posters are posted at all washrooms throughout the building.
  • Hand-sanitization stations are located outside each washroom.

University safety protocols in place

The University has implemented a number of directives to enhance its safety measures and ensure a safe learning and working environment for its community. You can learn more about the latest university-wide safety measures on the UTogether “Roadmap” website

Access to U of T facilities is open to the public, but all visitors must follow the University’s vaccination requirement and display proof of full vaccination upon request.

The University requires face masks (medical-grade preferred) for all employees, students, visitors, and contractors in indoor, common-use university spaces (including university-owned and leased spaces).

Wearing a mask is also strongly recommended outside when people cannot physically distance more than two metres.

Unless otherwise noted, these requirements apply regardless of an individual’s COVID-19 vaccination status.

U of T community members entering the College must self-assess for symptoms of COVID-19. Signage at entrances will provide additional information for self-assessment as well as required procedures. Prior to coming to campus, individuals can also access the University’s self-assessment web portal, UCheck.

Anyone who screens probable or positive is not permitted into the College building.

Dispensers for hand sanitizer are located throughout the building and available at or near each entrance, classroom, and washroom. Handwashing and hand-sanitizing signs are posted throughout the building. Washrooms have touchless faucets and paper towel dispensers.

Some areas may be fitted with protective barriers and signage to indicate queuing areas.
The College has one non-touch bottle filling station located outside the Registrar’s Office and beside the elevator on the main level.
